First Aid Requalification

Overview

The First Aid Requalification course is for persons wishing to renew an existing, valid First Aid certificate. Persons with an expired certificate are still able to attend this course, provided that not more than a month has elapsed since the certificate expired.

The course covers first aid protocols for adults, children and babies. It also includes a demonstration of the AED (automated external defibrillator).

The First Aid course is aimed at:

  • persons who want to update the skills required to confidently manage emergency situations and provide a first aid response to a casualty.
  • companies/organisations requiring fully qualified workplace first aiders. This is the standard training recommended for workplace first aid providers.

  • The role of the first aider
  • Communication and casualty care
  • Allergic reaction
  • Asthma
  • Basic defibrillator demonstration
  • Bleeding
  • Bone, muscle and joint injuries
  • Burns and scalds
  • Chest pains
  • Choking
  • Eye injuries
  • Fainting
  • Head injuries
  • Low blood sugar
  • Poisoning
  • Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Seizures
  • Shock
  • Spinal injuries
  • Stroke
  • Treatment of an unresponsive casualty

Prerequisites

  • Participants should have a valid First Aid certificate. Persons with an expired certificate are still able to attend this course, provided that not more than a month has elapsed since the certificate expired.

Instructors

This training is delivered by qualified and experienced trainers.

Duration

This course is delivered over 2 days (6.5 hours per day).

Assessment

The First Aid course is assessed through a written multiple-choice test and a practical test.

Certificate

  • Successful candidates will receive an internationally recognised St John Ambulance certificate which is valid for three years.
  • The St John Ambulance First Aid certificate fulfils the requirements of the local Occupational Health & Safety Regulations.

Fee*

  • Individual fee: €45 per person. Refunds will not be issued if applicants fail to attend full or part of the course. St John Training reserves the right to cancel a course if the minimum number of participants is not reached. In such cases, the applicants are given the opportunity to attend the next course or they will be refunded the full course registration fee.
  • Group fee: Companies/organisations are kindly requested to contact us via email (training@stjohnmalta.org) to regarding discounted fees for group training. On-site training at customer premises is available.

*Proceeds from our training courses support services provided by St John Malta for the community.

Registration

  • Individuals can register online for the course. Payments can be made by (a) direct bank transfer or (b) cheque addressed to ‘St John Ambulance’ and sent to this address. Cheque payments should not be sent via registered post.
